Tooth Brushing
Regardless of age, any person's dental health is an integral factor to keep the teeth and mouth healthy. When having a healthy teeth for example, one has the freedom to eat a variety of food needed for good health. In addition, it would also make one's smile more aesthetic. The teeth are supposed to last throughout our life and by incorporating a proper dental health care, the teeth would be protected, as well as the gums for a lifetime. Moreover, proper care is necessary in maintaining a person's well-being.

Regular dental care such as proper brushing the teeth and flossing generally help in the prevention of the different dental problems that may occur. And when they occur, such condition would be milder, making them less painful and expensive to treat. Aside from a regular visit to the dentist, there are other simple practices that people can incorporate into their daily lives in order to help reduce the chances of developing dental problems such as cavities in the teeth and gum diseases. Some of these practices are as follows:

  • Brushing the teeth twice a day every day and flossing.
  • Using toothpaste and dental products that contains fluoride, after consulting the dentist.
  • Using a mouthwash with fluoride
  • Avoiding snacking in between every meal, instead, consuming a balanced diet
  • Rinsing the mouth thoroughly after every meal.

In addition, in order to maintain your dental health you need to incorporate the proper way of brushing and flossing the teeth. Failing to do these things the right way might just lead you to have futile efforts as the effects and benefits would not be availed.

  • Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and a toothpaste with fluoride. Gently brush the teeth from the front, behind, and then on the top for the molars.
  • Use a short back and forth movement and small circular movements.
  • Gently brush and carefully along the gum line
  • Gently brush your tongue to keep it free from bacteria.
Flossing is necessary aside from brushing as floss cleans the spaces in between the teeth. It also enables a person to remove the food particles and plaque that a toothbrush cannot reach. Rinsing should be done after flossing. If in case the gum hurts or bleeds when flossing, ask the dentist how to do it properly. A floss holder can be helpful if flossing is difficult to do. When the teeth and mouth is not thoroughly cleaned, several dental problems may occur such as below:

  • Tooth Cavity ( Decay )- the enamel gets covered with bacteria build-up. This bacteria would result in holes known as cavities. Brushing and flossing can prevent tooth decay. A fluoride toothpaste is also helpful. Consulting a dentist upon the discovery of tooth cavities is necessary.
  • Tartar and Dental Plaque- dental plaque is a thin film of bacteria and mucus that when deposited on the teeth, would lead to tooth decay and gum disease. When not removed, it hardens and forms as tartar or calculus. Visit a dentist to have the tartar get removed.
  • Gum Diseases- this occurs due to plaque build up under the lining of the gum. This leads to infections, causing the gum to be swollen, tender, painful, and causes bleeding. The bleeding of the gums is known as gingivitis. Visit your dentist for the different preventive measures.
